YOUNITED BELGIUM

Whether it's the warmth of the dressing room or the adrenaline on the field, the intoxication of victory or the sorrow of defeat: at Younited Belgium, we share our joys and sorrows. Our players find in their team more than just teammates, they also find a home. Regardless of origin, age or walk in life, the feeling of entering a dressing room and finding a home there is universal. It gives wings to the players of a Younited team, they find a positive identity and energy to give their lives a new direction.

Building self-confidence, developing a better self-image, based on one's own strengths and abilities, bringing new structure to life, the strength of the group and the feeling of belonging: that's what the coaches of Younited-teams want to offer their players. To take the first step towards a new beginning. Football is just a means, but what a means. No other sport has such a broad base of support. Younited Belgium has been around since 2009, our network of social organisations, football clubs and urban services can testify to the process of working both locally and nationally, always with one eye on the social objectives and the other on the football game.

OUR ACTIVITIES

The Younited teams train weekly with the goal to participate in the tournaments of Younited Belgium. These are true heydays for players and supporters and the chance to participate increases their motivation to come and train every week and to contribute as much as possible to the group spirit. Throughout the year there are tournaments in which the Younited teams participate. Some of these tournaments take place on public spaces, and for good reason. On the one hand we offer our players a platform to show their skills, on the other hand we also bring the problem of social vulnerability and social exclusion to the attention of the public.

In addition to the organisation of the events, Younited Belgium also takes on :

  • Starting up and supporting Younited teams

  • Educating and supporting coaches of Younited teams

  • Setting up media campaigns

OUR PLAYERS

The players and supporters of Younited Belgium are experts in daily survival. They struggle with vulnerability on different domains like housing, mental health, wellbeing, poverty or addiction. They find in their team more than just team-mates, they also find a home.

We resolutely choose to start from the power that people have in them, instead of naming them with the problems that they have to deal with.

TEAMS

The basis of Younited Belgium are the Younited teams, this is where the power of football and of people really works: at the crossroads of welfare, sport and poverty reduction. Getting people to reconnect with society starts with connecting them to a small, positive minded group, in our case a football team.

From here our players progress down a pathway, this process can be social (improving trust in social workers, building self-confidence and positive self-image) or of a professional nature (education, employment). Physical progress is also made, by working on a better condition and health.

Each Younited team is a collaboration between a football club and social organisations such as streetcorner work, almshouses, social welfare, shelters etc.

Star player or not,
male or female,
young or old,
everyone is welcome!

These tournaments each run over two days: the first day the local network in the city compete (social organisations, companies, local Younited team) and on the second day the Younited teams are next in line. These tournaments are played according to the street football format: 4 vs. 4 for 2 x 7 minutes on a pitch with boarding.

JUNE (final tournament)
This tournament lasts two or three days with overnight stay for all teams. These tournaments are played according to the street football format: 4 vs. 4 for 2 x 7 minutes on a pitch with boarding. In addition to being active on the football pitch, players and supporters are also involved in side activities, as well as in the organisation of the event.
